Fergal Is Fuming

Miss Sami read us the book "Fergal is Fuming" It is about a dragon who gets angry. He has to learn ways to calm himself down. He could count to ten, he could talk to a friend, he could watch the sunset, he could stretch, he could whizz about. In the end he uses his fire for good!

Alvin and Indiana suggested the following ways to cool ourselves down:
have a think, talk to a friend, have a drink, read a book, have a rest or play a quiet game.
What helpful advice!!!

Friday Challenge - working with ice.

On Friday Mrs Dijkstra gave us a challenge. We were given a cup of frozen water that had a key in it. Our challenge was to bring the key to Mrs Dijkstra and to complete the sentence " This is the key to......" Most of Room 24 smashed the ice by dropping it on the ground but some melted it using water from the tap. It was COOL!

Here we are and here we SHINE!

Our first story writing was about things we were good at. We wrote I shine at.....
We then published them on a sunny yellow balloon. It was tricky to keep the balloon still.
We shone at lots of different things!!

Celebrating Chinese New Year at Sunnyhills School

We had visitors come to the school to tell us about and demonstrate "The Lion Dance"  It was really interesting and skillful. Some children including Hayley were given the opportunity to play the cymbals. Mrs Dijkstra loved the drums. They reminded her of the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing where there were one thousand of those drums. They were AMAZING!

Mrs Dijkstra was very proud of these children who wore their Traditional costume to school to celebrate their culture. Everyone in the class made an origami pig to take home.
 We had a special day!
We went on to make our own dragons. Check out the display in our classrrom!

A Cup Challenge

Last Friday we worked in a group of four pulling on our string to stretch the rubber band so that we could move the cups from the floor to the top of the stool. We had to work as a team and problem solve to get the job done. There was some smart thinking.

Find Someone Who......

As part of getting to know each other we were given a recording sheet. Our task was to roam around the room and ask questions like a reporter. If the person said yes, they wrote their name in a box on our grid. We tried to collect as many different names as we could. That way we were mixing it up and getting to know something about a lot of people in our class. One of the questions was - Does your family have a pet? Room 24 well done for getting to know each other better!!

Our first day in Room 24

Here we are, with our second ice breaker activity.
We are searching to find objects in the picture.

We were very clever, and had to search long and hard
 and we did it!!
