Te Tuhi Gallery

 Listening to instructions from Salome

Looking at samples of Tapa form Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

Firstly we scrunch up our paper then we rub it over with a pastel and then we painted over our work with dye.

We tell our story by using symbols about our family, our culture, our interests, our home.

We then colour in and paint the borders.

We play in the playground whilst our work dries and then return to  make a star to celebrate Matariki.

It was a fun at Te Tuhi Art Gallery. One of the best things was that we had the bus all to ourselves.

PJ's in June

Here we are last Friday in our pyjamas. We went to the hall to see the 300 pairs of  donated pyjamas.
Over twelve hundred dollars was also raised. What a huge and generous contribution Sunnyhills made.

Paper Shoes

At this week's Friday Challenge Miss H read a new home reader "Mum's Shoes" In the book Mum ends up making a shoe out of paper. So we decided we would try to also. Mrs Dijkstra got some advertising fliers given to her so we used those together with masking tape, pipe cleaners and some squares of coloured paper. It was a great problem solving activity. Some children used their school shoes as an outline to  get some shape and size. We made a wide variety of styles and shapes- from boots, to slip ons to toe peepers. Miss H and Mrs Dijkstra loved our creativity, imagination and problem solving. Wonderful self belief Room 24!

Rush Hour

Mrs Dijkstra found in her cupboard at home three sets of Rush Hour. This is a Maths Puzzle where you need to move the vehicles- forward, back or to the side left or right so that the ice cream truck is freed from being hemmed in so that it escapes through the gap. We have to problem solve and trial and persevere. It is a challenge but we are learning to figure out tricky things.
